Oamaru Stone Carving

Oamaru stone is a great natural product, both in its natural state and once it’s been fussed over by a human. Okay, I’m not the best human to be doing the fussing, but it is a great piece to work with!

Simple tools are required, along with a strong set of arm muscles and a bit of imagination. The muscles will grow, the imagination can be borrowed from other items (shhhh, don’t tell anyone!) and the tools can be purchased from your favourite hardware store. Below are a few of the devices I used for my works.

I haven’t shown the dull (but necessary) pieces needed for the tidy afterwards – brooms, dustpans, buckets, dust-masks, gloves – all of which can also be found at the local hardware store.

But enough of the How-To talk, let’s see some completed items!
